According to a new poll, President Joe Biden's approval rating with independent voters, a crucial bloc ahead of the 2024 election, stands at 31%. It is noteworthy that 80% of these voters perceive things in America to be going "somewhat" or "very" badly.
In contrast, Biden's overall approval rating of 40% is mainly supported by Democrats, with 79% expressing their approval of the president, as reported by a recent CBS News/YouGov survey released on Sunday.
However, the poll reveals that 60% of U.S. adults disapprove of Biden's handling of his presidential role, including 69% of independent voters.
Moreover, only a mere 20% of independent voters believe that things in America are going "somewhat" or "very" well, compared to the overwhelming 80% who believe that the country's state is deteriorating.
Looking at the wider perspective, 72% of Americans believe that the country is doing poorly, including 52% of Democrats.
It is important to note that the poll was conducted from September 5th to 8th, with a sample size of 2,335 U.S. adults, and has a margin of error of 2.7%.
President Biden's current approval rating of 40% is slightly higher than the 39% recorded in a recent CNN survey.
Political independents, constituting 38% of the U.S. population as per Pew Research, hold significant sway in elections. Their voting decisions are typically influenced by specific issues rather than party affiliation.
