Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he will not be taking part in the 2024 Republican presidential primary debates. This decision came after a recent poll revealed that he is significantly ahead of all other GOP candidates.
With the first GOP debate scheduled for Wednesday in Wisconsin, Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social, stating, "New CBS POLL, just out, has me leading the field by 'legendary' numbers. TRUMP 62%, 46 Points above DeSanctimonious (who is crashing like an ailing bird!)."
The CBS/YouGov poll on Sunday showed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in second place with 16% support. No other candidates, aside from Trump and DeSantis, received more than 7% support in the survey.
Referring to his successful presidency, Trump emphasized, "The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had, with Energy Independence, Strong Borders & Military, Biggest EVER Tax & Regulation Cuts, No Inflation, Strongest Economy in History, & much more. I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!"
This news follows previous indications that Trump would not participate in the Republican debates. A recent report suggested that he would prefer to be interviewed by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson instead of joining the other Republican candidates in Wisconsin.
Furthermore, earlier this month, Trump expressed his decision not to sign a pledge to support the eventual GOP presidential nominee in 2024, which is a requirement before appearing on the debate stage.
