The survey revealed that Trump has garnered the support of 42% of registered voters, giving him a 4-point lead over Biden who holds a 38% support rate. In a matchup against Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, Biden maintains a modest 2-point lead, securing a 36% support rate compared to DeSantis' 34%.
This survey was conducted from August 2nd to August 7th and comes in the wake of special counsel Jack Smith's indictments on charges related to Trump's efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results. Despite this development, Trump remains the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination, with 54% of registered voters showing their support for him, while only 18% prefer DeSantis. None of the other Republican candidates managed to attain double-digit support.
In a head-to-head matchup for the party nomination, Trump secured an impressive 65% of the support, leaving DeSantis far behind with only 26% backing him. These results indicate the strong foothold that Trump still holds within the Republican party and the potential impact he could have on future elections.
