Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, was carjacked at gunpoint but was not believed to be harmed.

On Monday night in Washington's Navy Yard neighborhood, a Democratic congressman became a victim of a carjacking incident, adding to the growing concerns about high-profile crimes in the nation's capital.

According to a credible congressional source, Rep. Henry Cuellar, representing Texas, was forcefully carjacked at gunpoint. Fortunately, initial reports suggest that he emerged from the incident unharmed.

The Capitol Police have been informed about the incident, although no arrests have been made at this time, as confirmed by the latest updates.

This unfortunate carjacking incident involving the experienced congressman follows the recent assault on Rep. Angie Craig, a Democratic representative from Minnesota. She was attacked at her apartment complex in Washington, D.C.

Moreover, last year, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi endured a brutal assault during a home invasion in San Francisco, a crime that shocked the entire nation.

Regrettably, crime rates in the District of Columbia have seen a significant surge this year. With the number of homicides reaching over 200 last week, there has been a shocking 35% increase from the previous year at the same time. The deteriorating law and order situation prompted lawmakers to hold a safety meeting in September. During this gathering, strategies were discussed to provide staff members with essential tips to minimize the risk of falling victim to violent crimes.
